My only suggestion would be to create a brand-new user account, define your 
mail accounts there, and see if Mail works properly there, or not.  If it 
works, then you might try trashing all the mail preference files you can find 
in the original account; if that doesn't work, abandon (rename) ~/Library/Mail, 
tart over from scratch, and import your saved mailboxes as necessary after you 
get it working.
