I think you can install the GD.pm modules with fink too. Have you tried that? I used fink to install only gd.c. (and required libs) I hadn't realized it could install GD.pm as well. After I got mine working (perl 5.6 OS X 10.15) I read somewhere you could use fink for both installs...
