Installing 5.8.0

I have gotten into a situation where I had to reinstall Mac OS X from 
scratch (bad drive, months of ignorant marketeer meddling). I have the 
standard Mac OS X 10.2 install.

I don't use fink, I do use darwinports.

What is the best, simplest, and easiest approach to having a rock 
solid, reasonably "standard" perl setup?
