Sounds like a bug . . .
Easy workaround: Choosing "All files" will let you select subdirectories. Or, you can hit cmd-shift-G and enter the full name of the directory you want to navigate to, for example "/usr/local/bin".
Working like a charm - I like this feature. :-)
Now off to expplore the features . . .
BTW, seems I was a bit off as to where 5.8.6 is installed - it's actually the binary that was installed into the /usr/local/bin directory.
