I disagree.  I use it quite a bit for my own stuff with no problems at all.
I find no problems with stability.  The only problems I ever had with it
were when it was first released, and some modules did not work with it.  In
fact, I daresay Apache 1.3.14 + mod_perl 1.24_01 + perl 5.6.0 is the most
stable setup I've ever had.  I don't read

This is something I plan to address in the announcement; basically, this
source release will be 5.6.0.  Whether or not the final release will be
5.6.0 or 5.6.1 remains to be seen.  We'll most likely make that decision on
macperl-porters, later.  Most of the existing work being done is not on the
perl source, it is on the MacPerl source and build process.  So I do not
anticipate much time lost or wasted if we decide to do the final release as
5.6.1.
