Some of us use a real mail user agent instead of a web browser for reading
our eamil (elm, in my case). We expect email to be plain text and no more.
HTML tags obscure the content, making it difficult to find the content.
email is, fundamentally, a text application. Anything more complex than
unadorned text ought to be a non-text attachment. It really ought to be
up to me to control (and to presume to control) things like the type face,
size, and colors of the text of the message. None of that is or ought to be
organic to the content.

I've seen a "blue ribbon campaign to ban HTML email"...
