A move for which you still haven't mentioned any specific advantages.
The W3C has abandoned XHTML2, so we should not do any new work in
XHTML. I suppose the current XHTML1.1 site will be fine for quite a
while, but converting it to HTML is pretty easy and puts us on the
supported path.
