You do love to complain about that, but the bug here is simply that the last
commit failed to increase the epoch, right? And failing to do that would cause
a problem like this regardless of whether the port was using different software
versions on different OS versions.
It wouldn't have fixed or prevented the problem, but it would have made
it immediately obvious instead of something that could be overlooked for
18 months and then lead to bug reports that can't be reproduced by
maintainers using a different OS version.
