It seems clear to me that the iPad is ideal for:

        * tasks involving organization (i.e. the email client, powerpoint
presentation editing, project management)
        * games. especially puzzle/board/mystery/adventure style games.
        * reading books, even if it's slightly straining on the eyes, unlike
Kindle. Full book interactivity will set this thing apart (email, highlight,
comment on annotations with friends, read a book at the same time as someone
else and have full streaming video chat in order to read outloud together
(think tutoring)).
        * interactive media (newspapers, magazines, books, videos). new kinds
of interactive media that we haven't quite seen yet.
        * remote staff tasks (delivery vans, USGS surveyors, on the go salesmen)
        * photography apps to edit and manipulate onsite, rather than waiting
to get back to the desk
        * navigation (the nav companies are going to take advantage of this
one)... remember, it's still got wifi and 3g.
        * communication... video/audio chat, IM, text, email, LoudTapping.
