How enlightening! Thank you very much. I patched the source and found that it is incompatible with the Synaptics setup (and synclient reported very different values) and I couldn't get syaptics to work properly. After commenting it out the appletouch response in native mode is *much* improved. The sensitivity is right up there with the IBM and Mactel in OSX however it is still darting to the pointer quite randomly without getting any touchpad input - unless it is to do with my palms reasting on the Mac's chassis near the touchpad ??!. I had to reboot and comment out my synaptics setup to get back to the appletouch manager but now it seems to be very good resolution just not accelerated or with additional button support.
Hmmm, must be a way to get the resolution passed successfully to synaptics no?
