Of course values are very different, since the resolution is changed. You
have to use synclient to figure out the new values to use in your setup. One
question remains: is the touchpad in the 17" version the same size as in the
15"?

I found that very annoying too. One easy way to prevent that is to use
syndaemon, but it may not be as convenient as it seems, since the touchpad
remains unusable right after typing. I know these touchpads should be capable
of palm detection, but I did not manage to make that work yet.
