I'm using ubuntu edgy with its stock kernel on my white 2.0Ghz first
generation macbook. When I let the computer idle after a while the fan
will start up and end up running at full speed.

Using coretemp I was able to find that the CPU temperature seems to be
going way up during this time so the fan is put at full power to
compensate. This is probably some misreporting of cpu temp since as
soon as I use the computer again the temperature goes down and the fan
stops very quickly.

What I found out is that when idle the second core goes to 2Ghz while
the first core remains at 1Ghz. As soon as I move the mouse they both
go to 1Ghz and the fan stops.

The ubuntu bug report seems to be this:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.15/+bug/56785

with the kernel saying:

No support for device type: thermal

Does any of the mactel patches fix this so I can refer it in the
ubuntu bug report?

Thanks,

Pedro.
