Has anyone managed to get VLC to run region encoded DVDs on the C2D
MBP's for any region? From what I read on a forum a while ago it
seems that the drives on these new machines have some "feature" which
lets them compare a DVDs region against a firmware setting they have
set for a region and then, if the regions don't match, they will just
spurt out gibberish. This means not even VLC will be able to get
around region encoding ... some VLC people said this has to do with
quick-time on OS X so I was hoping that VLC in linux could play any
DVD but when I tried it I still couldn't play a region encoded DVD (I
haven't yet picked a region for the drive in case this might interfere
with an eventual hack so right now it won't play any region based DVD
at all). I'd be interested in hearing what other people's experiences
with this have been. Apparently not all the MBPs have these new
drives but I think the majority do.

cheers,
Sheer
