Reset various NVRAM settings, the most obvious one is the boot chime sound level. When suspend2 complains that the memory size doesn't match, this typically helps. > The situation with my MacBook got worse to the point where I needed to > start it up about ten times in the morning, until it worked for about > one hour. That was enough to read emails. Then it crashed and I got enough. Would you get as far as rEFIt? I had seemingly random shutdowns occasionally (from seconds after power on to somewhat after logging into X). Presumably this was due to overheating when fans got confused - it is somewhat hard to tell when they do NOT work at all, but I was easy to tell when they were locked at full speed. >> Someone mentioned that the applesmc module isn't quite up to par with >> what MacOSX does to the hardware - I guess that might be the reason. > > The reason for not showing real values for battery capacity, rate and > voltage, you mean. Not the reason for the sudden shutdowns, is that right? Possibly. Once the ACPI stuff got confused I guess just about anything can han happen. I get the feeling that a confused SMC can do similar things - I tried putting a heartbeat on the keyboard backlight and it froze my box solid after a few cycles... > I'll try to install MacOSX and reproduce the error there, as soon as I > have all the data on my desktop computer. Well, lucky for me, MacOSX was also confused about various bits, such as the battery - I have a feeling this made a full swap easier to get to.
