Hm.. good to know. I'll try that. > Would you get as far as rEFIt? Most of the time, yes. The first try, when the system is completely cold seems to get quite far, often I can log in and proceed to doing some work. Especially, when putting the CPU on load, it tends to crash. Then, the machine seems to be in a half-cold/half-hot state, and it rarely comes to the login screen. When trying to turn it on again, immediately after a crash, it doesn't get to rEFIt. Giving it a break of half a minute already helps. Repeating that several times helps and as soon as the system runs stable for an hour, it's very unlikely to crash again. But hey, I can't fiddle for two hours per day, restarting it ten times until I get that far. > I had seemingly random shutdowns > occasionally (from seconds after power on to somewhat after logging into > X). Interesting you got that behaviour. On my MacBook, the fans never turned on before the crashes. OTOH, they turn on perfectly well as soon as I put the CPU on load by compiling something. > Possibly. I've already been complaining that my MacBook started up perfectly the last time. I can already see it coming: in the Apple Care Center it all runs perfectly well and those guys won't find anything wrong... Probably I shouldn't reset the NVRAM before trying to send it in ;-) Regards Markus ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys. Earn Cash.
