I can confirm they didn't care when I took my MBP 15" to an Apple Authorize Service last Monday. I got it fixed in two days.
The problem with the fan noise it's been the same case for me as someone else said earlier on the list. It started to make noise two months after I bought it (March 2006). I could make it stop by softly hitting the computer where the left upper fan is. Then, after a few days and for a long time it didn't make any noise at all. The noise started again intermittently last month, until last weekend when It would never stop and even freeze my computer. Fortunately I still had 8 days left before the warranty had run out. They replaced the fan and now seems to be fine... As someone said, the noise seems to be mechanical, as if the fan was touching something. You can find some mp3 recorded through the computer mic in http://knorretje.hku.nl/~eduard/ macbook_pro_15inch_fan_noise/, for whoever may be interested. Before I took it to the Apple Authorize Service I did run a Hardware test (you can do this my restarting your computer with the install DVD1 and holding the D key). I got an error message with a failure code and the words Left_Upper-Front. Other problems I have run into (December 2006) are defective battery and motherboard. eduard On Mar 17, 2007, at 4:30 PM, Jerome BENOIT wrote: > Hello, > > thanks for the quick reply. > > Jonas Petersson wrote: >> Jerome BENOIT wrote: >>> Nicolas Boichat wrote: >>>> Jerome BENOIT wrote: >>>>> Hello Nicolas, >>>>> >>>>> I am very glad to hear that. >>>>> I am confess that I was reluctant to do so >>>>> because my box is mainly running Linux: >>>>> do they care about that ? >>>>> must I avoid to say this part of the story ? >>>> They don't care I think... >>> can any one confirm that ? >> >> Well, my MBPC2D was also mainly running Linux and when it started >> having >> various issues (battery, charger) etc my local Apple shop was >> satisfied >> to see that the issues were present when booting into OSX. > > In other words, I can let refit on my macbook, > and boot it into OS X in front of the reseller. > > I want to avoid unnecessary misunderstanding with the seller > who may be surprised by Tux. > > Thanks again, > Jerome > > > Initally they >> replaced, the motherboard.
