The native macbook resolution (1280x800) is the only available option :(
(I've added 1280x1024 to Modes in the display subsection)
When I rotate the desktop or restart X I actually get a squished mirror.

Ideally I'd like to bypass the internal display completely (I have an
Acer laptop with Ubuntu installed that does this by default,
configurable in the BIOS; extended desktop works fine there as well, but
not together with my Wacom tablet).
