I recommend to wait at least till end of the month to seen, how good the
nvidia support really is and what influence this has on the heat and
battery life issues...

If the support for the Nvida power savings capabilites are better, I think
it won't. My experience with the fans are the following:

During the winter (in Germany), my fans rotate at about 2000 RPM (like in
MacOSX most of the time). Now, in the summer the average temperture is
at least 10 degrees higher. So my fans now rotate at 3000 RPM most of the
time.

I think the problem are the unusable power savings mechanisms of the
ATI graphics card (and maybe the unoptimized power saving of the CPU,
i.e. kernel drivers, USB, etc...) so the average CPU/GPU temperature is
higher and the fans need to transport more heat out of the box...

Have you compared the output of 'lspci' and 'lsusb'? Is the only
difference the graphics card?

Some other laptops are much louder! But if you take on the big and heavy
ones, these may be quieter...

Not really. I think the MacBook has one of the best combinations of hardware
parts...
