I recommend to wait at least till end of the month to seen, how good the nvidia support really is and what influence this has on the heat and battery life issues... > Can you comment a little more on how linux runs on the V3 MBP? My experience with the fans are the following: During the winter (in Germany), my fans rotate at about 2000 RPM (like in MacOSX most of the time). Now, in the summer the average temperture is at least 10 degrees higher. So my fans now rotate at 3000 RPM most of the time. I think the problem are the unusable power savings mechanisms of the ATI graphics card (and maybe the unoptimized power saving of the CPU, i.e. kernel drivers, USB, etc...) so the average CPU/GPU temperature is higher and the fans need to transport more heat out of the box... > Are there other driver issues that > don't exist on the V2? Some other laptops are much louder! But if you take on the big and heavy ones, these may be quieter... > If anyone has recommendations for a similar > but better and more linux friendly laptop I'd like to hear it (offline > if you don't think its relevant to this list). Not really. I think the MacBook has one of the best combinations of hardware parts...
