very interesting. i'm recompiling as i type this with your suggestions
above. the only settings i was missing from above were
DETECT_SOFTLOCKUP and FORCED_INLINING. we'll see in a minute if it
helps me!

have you tried applying the mactel patches in addition to the Debian
patches? if not, they might improve battery life a bit. same with the
patches on linuxpowertop.org .

hahah. i'll give "vga=normal" a go along with the new kernel config.

yeah it's a good idea to that periodically. my battery's about 4
months old, and it's already degraded a bit (in my opinion). its last
full capacity was 50600mWh; that's a loss of 4400.

well, the fans just went silent so the kernel compilation must be
done! it's so easy to tell when a cpu-intensive task is finished  =P
i'll reboot and let you know how i go.
