Well the funny thing is the application offered to erase it for me so I don't actually think this is a required step.

Hi all
I am downloading Mavericks as I speak, have already downloaded Disk Maker X.
Once Mavericks is downloaded and I click the quit button in the installer I
should be ready to go creating the bootable USB stick in my case. Correct?

Hello. I am happy to report, that making a bootible drive with disc maker X
version 3.4 waas successful. Steps I used to perform this.
1. Downloaded disc maker x version 3.4
2. Downloaded mavericks 10.92 and exited before it installed so it would place
the installer in my applications folder.
3. eraced and formatted my 8GB thumb drive, left it as untitled, and macintosh
journaled.
4. ran disc maker x.

note, when doing this it will first ask you what version of lion are you trying
to create a bootible drive for. Lion, mountain lion, or mavericks. I chose
mavericks. Next it will tell you what versions of lion or mavircks it found on
your system. Then it will ask you are you sure, ask for your admin password,
and then do its thing. It will first say disc maker has no windows, that will
go on for about 1 minut or so. Then disc maker will continue to say busy for
about 10 to 12 minutes. It will then tell you that it is completing copying
final files, and in about another 2 minutes, your bootible thumb drive of
mavericks is complete. These are the steps I did, don't know if anyone else
will have to change something, but this is what worked for me.
