On the Mac, if the app uses the standard text edit widget you can select
a word using option-shift-left or right to select the word to the left
or right of where you are. Then you can pull up the contextual menu with
control+option+shift+M an the first item will be Look Up
"word_you_selected". When you do that it will create a popup with
snippets from the dictionary, thesaurus and wikipedia. If you action one
of those you'll get the full dictionary app. Across the top of the
dictionary app there are tabs for All, Dictionary, Thesaurus, Apple and
Wikipedia. You can action one of those tabs which will update the HTML
content below them with whatever you picked. This should be available in
most any text editing area. I did have some trouble if I wasn't
interacting with the text area before I selected the word. When that
happened the contextual menu wouldn't pop up.

Hi,
I followed these steps but once I get into the widget place, I am stuck in
calculator and I can't figure out how to get out of it and get to the
dictionary/thesaurus. I'd really love access to a thesaurus.
Thanks so much.

Quite right Jim. Here's how I did it.
1. Open the widgit bar menu from F12.
2. Select dictionary from this drop down.
3. Type in or paste in the word you wish.
4. Now, from the pop up menu just to the left of the text box, select either
dictionary or Thesaurus.
5. Now, press return. That'll do it.
Many thanks Jim.

I think there is even a dashboard widget to get there. I love the fact that
the dictionary is available all over the mac and with just a few keystrokes.

Why yes, in fact, it does. But, it's been so long since I've fooled with it, I
forgot how to get access to it.

Doesn't the mac have one built in? Matter of fact doesn't the iPhone do as
well? They're sure buried from within their respective operating systems but
they are there.

Hello All:
What recommendations do people have for an accessible thesaurus for either i
phone or mac? I went to the app store and there are several available but I
don't want to get one until I know it will be accessible.
Many thanks,
Jean
