Mark: First congrats on your marriage. Hope Amy is doing well now. This is a thing I run into about twice weekly. Just turn the phone off and back on. This has always cleared any problem with texting for me. You might try a reset holding the off and on and home buttons for 10 seconds if the first does not work. However, just turning off and on has done the clearing for me consistently. Hope this helps!
