it was on mine as well
if you have anything that takes hdmi eg tv you could hook it up that way
that is how I have mine hooked up.

That adapter says Mini Display, but it is the same as Thunderbolt

That is a problem with some Minis (mine included). You need a
screen of some kind, even if the screen is off, or the Mac spends
so much time searching for a screen that it slows down. There are
also converters you used to be able to get, which would trick the
Mac into thinking a screen was connected when in reality all that
was there was a little box, but I don't know if those are still
around.
