OK, so we now know that you do, in fact, only have about 8GB of unpartitioned 
space.  Let's resize this to 70% of the disk, leaving 30% for your 
testing--that would be about 20GB.  Adjust as required.  You'd type this, and 
enter your password (hope you've got that backup):
sudo diskutil resizeVolume disk0s2 70% JHFS+ Testing 0

This ought to get your original partition resized to 70%, give or take a bit, 
and get you a second slice called "Testing" for your testing with the 
remainder.  The free space is between the first slice and the recovery area.
