Hi Pam,

I've never had anything but a laptop.  There are absolutely no problems using 
keyboard commander on one.  When you go in to set it up, you have to configure 
which key you want to use as the hotkey.  I'm pretty sure that right Option is 
the default, and that has worked fine for me.  So, I've set up shortcuts such 
as Right-Option+I to open iTunes, Right-Option+S to open Safari, etc.  The only 
thing you have to be careful with as that you can't use a shortcut that has 
already been assigned, unless you reassign the other shortcut.
