I clean-installed Yosemite and this seems to have improved VoiceOver response somewhat, but there's still the feeling of pushing the stone up the mountain when typing or navigating with VoiceOver. Interestingly enough, with a Braille display connected, you definitely see how much faster the text appears there as compared to Alex speaking it.
