This isn't a replacement for iTunes, at least not completely. I don't know what might happen if you send audio to an iOS device, but I'm not sure that it will be added to your music library. Worth trying, of course, but I wouldn't count on replacing iTunes with Air Drop. As to the supported Macs, the key is bluetooth 4.0, also called bluetooth low energy, or just BLE.
