Good point. To the OP: what voice are you using? Yosemite introduced some serious delays in a lot of tasks when using Nuance voices, at least for some users. In fact, I switched to Ava (I normally use Alex) a few minutes ago, and instead of keeping up with me as Alex does, Ava is slowly reading off a long list of characters, at a rate of maybe two per second, and nothing I do stops the stream. It's painful!
