If you're wanting to connect to Facebook, short answer is neither. Adium no longer supports Facebook, and according to a friend of mine that has used it for years, they no longer support Facebook through the Jabber protocol. If you want a client for Facebook, my recommendation is Trillian. Others use Messages with it, but others can chime in to help you set it up if you want to go that route since I don't use Messages with Facebook.
