Hi Zoe, No. The USB key really is too slow for a backup device, although it might work for that. I’m suggesting simply that you ensure that the files you value most dearly are somewhere other than either that Mac or that External hard drive. That’s all. Once you’re sure your data is safe, then you may go ahead with wiping, backup, upgrade, and so on.
