Finder has never remembered my viewing preferences for as long as I can remember now. I gave up long ago to get them right, and now simply set it up one time for all the common folders I visit and hope for the best. If I land in a view I don’t like, I press Command-3 and I’m back in column view, usually with the sidebar still showing.
As for System Integrity Protection, it probably won’t hurt you as long as you’re apps (and you) are well-behaved and don’t do anything untoward. In fact, in many respects, it would be a wonderful thing for the user, because it would stop apps from doing inappropriate things to your system files (but not necessarily malware). On the other hand, developers and sysadmins often find they need to turn it off, because the restrictions just don’t make sense on a system that is already well-managed and not liable to be at risk, and where tools in use need to command complete control over the filesystem. I’d really much prefer to get security that’s under my control and that was actually verifiable instead of being merely delegated to Apple, but I expect that’s simply a point of principle to most ordinary users, and since the common Mac apps have been fixed or are known to work with SIP turned on (TRIM enabling, backup/cloning apps, and so on), it probably doesn’t matter all that much anyway. -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list.
