Yeah, the whole idea though, being this is a macbook we're working with though
is to be as mobally portable as possible. I didn't mention initially this was
a macbook, which is my fault. Sorry about that.

Chris.

Here's a thought. Perhaps if you had a USB device such as the Griphin iMik,
you could rout Voice over to this and plug in a regular non blue tooth speaker
in the 3.5MM jack? Now that should solve your problem: especially if the
speaker has its own volume?

John, that is actually an excellent idea. The only reason that I wouldn't
want to do that is, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't audio from Voiceover a
little bit laggy/sluggish due to the limitations of the A2DP protocol? My
speaker has a feature where after about 10 seconds of no use, it goes into a
sleep like mode. Therefore, when it detects sound again, it takes about 4 to 5
seconds to wake back up. Therefore it almost makes using Voiceover either with
OSX or with I O S unusable. I do! like the way you're thinking though. I
wonder if they make speakers, not headsets, but speakers which don't take
electricity, but are simply USB bus powered, which would be seen as their own
audio output device. If so, and you could suggest an inexpensive model, then
I'd be very very open to giving that a try.

Well, you inadvertently proved my point.

I’m sorry Boom didn’t work out for you. It was, as I said, a suggestion,
and it served a purpose for me when I was using it on an earlier Mac model.
There has to be a solution that works for you though. Can you use a bluetooth
speaker and just send the VO volume to it alone?

John, I didn't word it the way you wrote because the question wasn't can
I increase the volume. I'm not sure what part of that you all don't seem to
comprehend. I know you can do it. So, asking that would! have been extraneous.

My question was, what am I doing wrong in this dad blamed VO prefs file
that is causing it not to let me uncap the volume.

BTW, I did try boom, but will be attempting to get a refund. As to not
give too much... detail... I won't bore the apparent 99.99 percent of you, but
we'll just say itt wound up audio wise being a bonified disaster!

If you want to know more, then, ask, but until someone does so, I'm not
budging in fear of my toosh getting kicked, maybe not by you, but by E T or
others.

      Hi Ray,
Details as far as the issue you are having and why you are asking eh
question only helps in the matter. I haven’t noticed anything with the way you
post. It’s just that when you have to read through a preamble before you get to
a question that could be asked in one or two sentences and doesn’t require a
back story, well, that frustrates me.

For example, with the issue involved with this subject or initial
subject, it simply could have been posted as, “I prefer using the Fred voice on
the Mac for personal reasons, but I find that the volume of that voice is not
acceptable to my hearing limitations. Does anyone know of a solution that will
increase the volume of the Fred voice without effecting the system sounds or
other sounds on the Mac?”

Everyone has their own writing style. I wasn’t trying to open a can of
worms, but only make a suggestion. Remember that long, drawn out posts probably
will not be responded to by most people because they will end up deleting it
before giving you a chance, and, thus, you don’t get the help you desire from
the list members.

Perhaps this might be helpful. It's clear that Chris and I like to
write detailed posts: but, it's equally clear not everone likes to read them.
So, here's a thought. Perhaps we who love to write detailed posts should put
what questions we may have right up front with the details below. This way,
someone who is not inclined to read detailed posts doesn't need to bother with
the detail: while, on the other hand, those who need or wish to have the
detail can read further down should they whish or need to do so. This goes not
just for Chris but for me also: since, you see, I tend to be somewhat the same
way.
