OK Phil. Do this.

I presume that you are using Safari.

Go into Safari, and go to the preferences with Command+Comma.

Interact with the toolbar, and go to the advanced tab.

OK, under here, we're looking for a checkbox that says something to the effect of showing the developer menu in the menu bar. You need to check this box, then command+W to close preferences.

OK, now, let's go to

http://m.facebook.com

Now, before doing anything, go to your menu bar, and go to the developer menu.

Under here, go to User agent.

Then, under the user agent sub menu, go to Firefox. I know this sounds totally irrellavent, but please just hear me out on this.

This should reload the page.

Now, log in, if needed.

Go to the person's FB page with the mobile formatted URL.

For example, my Facebook page with the mobile formatted address is:

http://m.facebook.com/chris28210

so basically, it's m.facebook.com slash user name.

On this page, since you're logged in, look for something that says add friend. Go there, and boom!

If you don't see this, then it probably means this other person has their FB privacy settings set in such a way that people cannot directly send them FB friend requests, at which point, go to their page, and find a link that says message. Not to be confused with the messages link at the top of the page.

Go there, and send them a private message, asking them to send you instead, a friend request.

If you can't even message them either, then, sorry, pal. You're then out of luck.

Chris.

Subject: need basic Facebook help

For the life of me I can’t find a way to send a friend request on either the mobile Facebook site or via the IOS Facebook app. I know, how basic, but I’ve never bothered with Facebook before now. I want to send a friend request to someone. I have their Facebook page, but can’t find anything that looks like a “send request” link.
Please help. either with Facebook app or the m.facebook site.
