Google was helpful. Put the volume icon on the menu bar and then to
get the extra options. this may require the mouse tracking deal so will
try that later. The normal way to do this is to hold the option key and
click that icon in menu extras.

Bluetooth and wired headsets if necessary.
This does not appear to be the case under El Cap. If I go into
System Prefs, Sounds, Output devices, I can select the device
manually. But this can be an issue should the active device die then I
lose speech.
Is there a shortcut that can be used to switch output devices?
