Hi Donna, your iPhone 7 will ship with iOS 10.0.1, so I can't see a reason why 
both devices being on the same OS would be a problem.
But if you're updating on Friday, restoring from a backup made on the iOS you 
have now should be fine. It's only when you try to restore to an older OS 
version from a newer one that the universe objects.
