OK, that's good. A couple things to note. Stuff that is on your iCloud Drive remains in your iCloud Drive even if you turn off the service on either your Mac or iDevice. What you're essentially doing is just severing that computer's connection to the data. If you choose "Remove from Mac", then all that happens is that your iCloud data is removed from that Mac but it is retained in Apple-land in iCloud Drive. I use this process all the time for teachers in our District. I encourage them to save all important data to the Cloud, in Google Drive etc, then if I need to swap out their computer, or if it dies, they can simply connect to the Cloud service and all their important data is brought back down in no time.
