Partially correct. Same thing happened to me way back in my first Mac days. I did not need to uninstlal Drop box because I never even had it in the first place. Yes, there was the folder but like you say, nothing happened. Solution was to create a brand new Drop box account. Now, I should point out that the Drop box folder which Drop Box itself will create is NOT the same one already found on your friend’s Mac.
It will be a different folder but will be directly off the home folder: that is, unless you have your friend create a seperate partition on an external drive the way I did and dedicate that partition to Drop Box.
