Any chance you have Apple Music service or iTunes match These services try to
do a bit more with sound files when they are imported. Still I wouldn't think
it would stall your entire system.
I do notice with my corporate Macintosh, that it does not like me putting the
system to sleep when I leave in the evening. I haven't completely figured it
out, but if I use my Cisco VPN service and then try using the computer in a few
hours where my WiFi connections have changed then the computer stalls for 20
seconds on application switch or when I request a menu be activated. When this
happens only a reboot resolves my "pizza wheel" / Application busy messages.
