Hi,

If things haven't changed since my last check, even when you have it set to not
copy to your iTunes Library, it will actually attempt the copy when importing
from an external drive. If that drive happens to be a USB drive, then it will
probably be quite slow on that machine as I believe that the ports on the 2012
MBP are USB 2 ports. I get around this issue on my home MacPro by placing the
entire 3 TB iTunes Library on a separate drive, thus not using up space in my
system drive. This may be more challenging when working with the MBP as you
likely wish access to your iTunes Library without the need to carry around an
external drive. There's probably something we could figure out, if needed
though.

Hi Tim and E.T.,
I have my audio books library on a second hdd in my 2012 15-inch
macbook pro. I have itunes preferences set to not copy. The way I add
books to itunes is to launch itunes, hit command+o and point the file
browser at my library. Itunes then goes into saying busy busy busy for
hours. I usually shut off VO and use my windows pc and let itunes
churn over night. My question came about because i heard the new 2016
macbook pro has faster cpu and faster ram. Maybe when I get a 2016 MBP
I'll try your automatically add to itunes option since all my stuff
will be on one single drive.
