Oh good, glad you got it working, guess that my previous messages
unnecessary as well. Not sure why it would take that SQL process 10
minutes to shut down, I would say for now, only run that when you need
to, when doing web development.

Okay, problem solved—or at least identified.
As I use my computer as a server to do web development, I have MySQL
set to start up automatically. I just tried shutting down the MySQL
server manually and it took about ten minutes.
I then restarted my computer and all is good. So, now all I have to do
is find out why the MySQL process is taking so long to shutdown and I am good.

Also, this sort of thing usually happens, obviously, when some process
is not allowing your Mac to shut down properly. I'd try to reset the
pRAM and/or an SMC reset. Try the pRAM first, then if there's no
change, try the SMC reset. If neither of those help, there's likely
something in the Activity Monitor that can be investigated.

sudo or you to be logged in as root. The -r tells it to restart.
