So my DLink router from 2005 supported up to 40 devices at a time. These were
all draft N but still. The airport falls over at about the 40 mark, not really
falls over but wouldn’t support my gigabit link as it only forwards at about
200 megabits. But again you don’t need the newest and greatest to do what
you’re doing especially since you’re working with so few devices. I only this
year updated my main router to go full gig and I’ve got probably 70 WiFi
connected devices at any one time including cameras, phones, desk phones,
televisions, xboxes, set top boxes and so on and so forth. I’m able to connect
reliably from my home with the new antenna setup about a half mile away instead
of the usual 150 to 300 feet. I’m going with a distributed WiFi system, which
is definitely another way the original poster could go and just put an access
point in each room you want the best coverage. These include a routing
function although in my case I’ll run them in bridged mode and let the Netgear
do the heavy lifting and forwarding.

Do not trust what Best Buy tells you, they only want to sell product. I’ve
seen so much bad advice given out of that chain it’s not funny. Save your
pennies, buy from amazon and talk to the list members here who have no dog in
the hunt so you won’t get swindled out of hard earned funds. And never, ever,
buy the extended service plans, they are a ripoff of the highest order.
