You really do need to use it for a day or three. The original keyboards with the butterfly switches, found on the 2015 Retina MacBooks, were terrible. The new ones, found on the updated Retina MacBooks and the newer Pros, have a little more separation between the keys. I find it just enough to tactually distinguish each key, yet the surface area of the keys is still a little larger thus making typing easier. I'm writing on the keyboard now, and I just find it a comfortable, easy experience. But keyboards, like speech synthesizers, are very subjective. I'd recommend the OP try one out for as long as the store will let him stay so he can see exactly how it feels.
