What led to the PRAM reset was that while trying to work out the
VO-shift-z issue, the system stopped responding to commands, getting the
klunk sound. I had to do a forced shutdown. I've a mid 2012 MBP. Would
love another newer Mac to see if a certain audio issue was still present
but its not in the budget.

Wow, I was beginning to think that PRAM resets were only good for fixing
startup with no sound issues. You always see folks suggesting to do
this, but I rarely have seen anybody declare recently that this actually
solved an issue.
I believe newer MACS don't call the firmware used to boot the system
PRAM anymore.
Glad it worked for you.
Best wishes,

Just a FYI to say that doing a PRAM fixed this for me.

VO-shift-c does that and works still. Its VO-shift-z that no longer
works for me under Sierra and I cannot find where to check if it got
changed somewhere in preferences. The command works in High Sierra.

Hi,
I believe that is what it is supposed to announce. Once the phrase
has been copied to the clipboard, you can paste it into a TextEdit
document or such and it can be read out later.

Hi!
Does not work here.
It just says something about last phrase copied to clipboard.

Thanks for that one Anne. May come in handy.

Hello ET,
VO-Shift-z captures the last phrase spoken by VoiceOver and saves it
to the desktop as an audio file.
Cheers,

Is it possible to take a screenshot or make a video that captures
the Voiceover speech? I may need to do this to help resolve an
issue in Dropbox.
In case someone may already have a solution, the issue occurs when
one needs to sign into Dropbox on the Mac. Both the email address
and password fields are totally silent, no typing feedback of any
kind. Voiceover speaks the rest of the dialog just fine.
