Tim,
This is what is swinging me around to use the apps. You would
probably agree the benefits outweigh the garbage. I have friends in
Texas who felt the power of Harvey but were far enough away to be safe.

Hi,
FaceBook has a nice feature that lets people know that you're safe during an emergency
situation. Last year during the evacuation of Fort McMurray due to the wildfire, a
notification popped into our FaceBook feed stating something to the nature of "Let
your friends and family know your safe". We were able to let all our FaceBook
contacts know that we had made it out safely and were OK. This was a huge relief for
many of our friends and family as they followed the scary news of the event. Now, this
certainly isn't foolproof as one needs a device like an iPhone, and some sort of method
by which you can connect to FaceBook, like active cell towers, in order for this to be of
any service. But it is very useful in my opinion. This, along with follow-up groups etc
gave me a new appreciation for the power of social media like FaceBook during emergency
events. Granted, there's a ton of garbage on FaceBook and other social media platforms,
but this feature certainly was positive.

I love Youtube so much cool and fun stuff there. I tend to use twitter

it comes to Social media. Gave up on facebook last year for the most
part. I might log in every now and then.

I don’t find it addicting but that’s me. I think the closest I get is I do
like watching content on youtube and other video sources but I’m more of a
passive user of social media. I get news aggregated on twitter and so
forth.

Thanks that did help. I promise myself I will not become addicted to
this. (smiles)

O in my opinion Facebook is what you would use to stay connected with
your family and friends and twitter would be the best for gathering news
and staying informed. You could follow the news sites or aggregators you
want and quickly get the latest.
Hope that helps.

I am not a fan of social media. But given how it can be used in times
of emergency, I may relent.
Which would be ideal for me to sign up with, and the most useful,
Facebook or Twitter? I would only use an iDevice for this.
