I think you will find that these are notthe the problems you expect.
Last year in the |UK at least and I understand other countries as well you
did not have to actually physically attend conventions to take advantage of the
offers. They simply run during the the period of the event and actually
beyond so you could just order as normal during this window.
I, fore example, ordered the Freedom Scienctific Open Book Software and Pearl
camera under the UK special offer pricing during the Sight village event in
the UK even though I did not attend. I simply rang the UK distributor whilst
the event was running. I have in previous years bought my SMA under similar
conditions.

Secondly having a Pro jaws Licence does not preclude you from purchasing a SMA
at reduced Home pricing. This is precisely what I did. I had a Pro licence
whilst in work but now I am retired I buy my SMA licences at the reduced Home
rate.
As far as I am aware I have lost no Jaws functionality as a result of this.

Subject: Re: Question about installing jaws on my Mac

well,
small problem… I would have to spend a great deal of money to get to the NFB
convention. that would leave me with very little to spend on needed products
(like jaws). I happen to use the Pro version here (it was included as part of
my contract) and any further upgrades would be along that path. so, it *will*
definitely cost me more, even if there is no significant difference between the
pro and home versions. Even then, the retail cost (according to the freedom
scientific website) is still just as expensive. So, even after the takeover,
there hasn't been any real change to the pricing model. About the only thing
that has changed is there is now less choice in what you get to use. There used
to be Window Eyes, jaws, Thunder, System Access and NVDA. Now, there is jaws,
System access, NVDA and possibly narrator (which I don't count as a serious
screen reader with it's current limitations). So, even though VFO has a good
business model, their motive is still profit.

Speaking of, which, if Freedom Scientific (VFO) were to drop the government
business pricing model and simply sell to the blind public for about $120, they
would be generating far more income. They wouldn't have to wait for government
vouchers to be paid on, not have to negotiate onerous government contracts or
jump through regulatory hoops.  They would go from selling through government
agencies to (at most) several hundred vocational rehabilitation recipients per
year, to many multiple orders of magnitude greater customers. $100 puts the
price well within reach of even the most impoverished blind person. It would
also cut down on piracy (the current price point encourages it in most foreign
countries)

ok, at this point, I have wandered way off the reservation with regard to the
topic. Now, as for installing jaws on a mac.. Assuming you have the correct
version that works with your key, and you have all the bootcamp drivers
installed, there shouldn't be any issues installing there Given what I have
seen in this thread, it appears that it is either a version conflict, or
something that the registration program reads changes between reboots.  In
either case, that can be bad, as it will force the end user to use all the
available registrations they have with the product. That will leave them
without a working product within a very short time (and 40 minute demo mode is
a real PITA).

Sorry, not quite. The Pro version costs about as much as JAWS always did in the
past. The home version SMA is about $120. There is also a special pricing for
the home version that you can get if your company buys enough of the Pro
version or if you go to the NFB National convention.

But still I have hard several times from VFO folks that the difference between
Pro and Home is licensing rather than anything technical.
I believe you can even get  the remote client services for the home version
which was not true for v15.

well, so that is how VFO is trying to play the game. If you make money on a
paid for product (like jaws), they demand what? A percentage or an extra fee?

btw, I am still on Jaws 16 here (the pro version) and there was no such clause
in that user agreement then.

If you are installing a version of JAWS that is newer than what your SMA
allows, then it will say so. The Professional and Home versions are identical
except for the agreement to use for non-commercial purposes. Essentially if you
are making money off the computer that JAWS is running on, VFO wants a bit of
that money. There have been issues with JAWS 18 and earlier where if you
adjusted VM settings in any way you needed to re-authorize the computer.
Without the accompanying  text in the authorizing dialog it is hard to tell
exactly what went wrong.

Is your jaws version the right one for the licence you have for jaws?

Jaws 2018 is different to jaws 18.

Subject: Question about installing jaws on my Mac

Hello folks,
I installed windows 10 on my Mac and then installed jaws. After installing
jaws, I activated and everything went great, however after rebooting the
computer, jaws brings up the jaws activation dialog again. It has my jaws
authorization number in there again and it tells me activation was successful,
but it does this everytime. Any thoughts on why the activation is not holding?
Looks like jaws professional is being installed and not the home version. But I
didn’t see a separate installer for that version. A few years ago I went ahead
and switched my SMA to the home one vbut jaws professional is being installed
here. Wonder if that is why the activation window keeps coming up. Any thoughts
would be welcome.
