Hi,

You do not need an external keyboard in Recovery mode. Press cmd-power three
times quickly to turn VO on/off. In fact, you can use this command while in
Recovery mode or regular MacOS mode. Regarding the function keys, you can
reach them very easily simply by pressing the FN key and pressing one of the
number keys in the top row. Now, from everything I've heard as the use case
for this machine, I believe that a MacBook Air with 8 GB of RAM would suffice
just fine and last a long time. The MacBook Pro units will accept more RAM and
are much more powerful, but also much more pricy.

I would suggest the macbook air, one of the big advantages the macbook pro
offers is the retena display which is meaningless for a blind person. If you
decide to get the macbook pro, I would avoid the touch bar, it can allow you to
do some things in some apps a bit faster but in my opinion it makes things more
complicated, also, unless this has changed, you have to use an external
keyboard to turn on voiceover when booted in to recovery, it's much easier just
to have the regular function keys. If you decide to get the macbook air this
will be a nonissue since the air does not have a touch bar.
