Hello,
This is Paul Hopewell from near Southampton in the UK. I would like to
recommend the 24 July 2020 version of the GPS App Nearby Explorer Online. Most
days I use my long cane for a 3 mile or so exercise walk around the streets of
my suburban neighbourhood. Before GPS I sometimes used to get lost through lack
of attention and had to wait for help from a passerby or head towards traffic
noise to hopefully find a recognisable major road. I thus need GPS on my iPhone
8 to tell me which street I am on, what the next intersection is, and sometimes
in what compass direction I am heading. I have tried several GPS Apps and am
very impressed with the latest version of the free App Nearby Explorer Online.
This was updated around 24 July requiring the download of a new map format
enabling Nearby Explorer to give excellent information on the street
intersections ahead of me with their distance and whether they are to my left
or my right. As I approach an intersection it gives me a count down of the
remaining distance 50 yards, 30 yards, 20 yards and then promptly announces any
new street I have entered. It is very customisable as I can enable or disable
speaking of house numbers, street names, compass bearing, approaching
intersections and nearby points of interest. It optionally offers turn by turn
guidance to a desired locations and you can save and name your current location
such as a park entrance and later find it using compass bearing and distance
across an open space. If you do not need points of interest you can use it with
mobile data turned off. I have set the radius for points of interest to 50
yards so that I am not told about places some distance away . The documentation
is excellent. There is a lot I have not yet tried but so far it matches my
needs very well and I recommend it.
Best regards … Paul Hopewell
