Well, apple has assumed that everyone that uses VoiceOver uses direct touch. I know I have never had an issue with it. Anyway, if you insist using follow focus, the thing you will have to do when you want to swipe up, is put the remote in navigation mode. To do this triple tap with 2 fingers on the track pad area of the remote. Once you do this VoiceOver should say navigation mode. Then turn it to direct touch, and swipe up, repeat the steps to turn it off. HTH
