Hello.

Just to say that I had this problem a few weeks ago. As I have no vision, I
used my mac to restore my I phone and then had to get a recent update on it and
then make sure that my phone had gone to factory defaults and then get the
phone to restore itself from a recent back up. I hate that voice recognition.

Hi Greg,

Thanks. I ended up calling Apple Accessibility. They couldn’t figure it out
either, so I ended up resetting all my settings. Kind of a pain, but it took
care of the problem.

Just for grins, I did what you suggested, just to see what I could see. There
was nothing pertaining to Recognition in the rotor, the closest thing I saw was
Direct Touch. I suppose it’s possible that somehow that got set to On, but I
sure can’t imagine how.

Cheers,

Donna

Hello,

Move to the app switcher and make sure focus is on settings. Once focus is on
setting turn the rotor to screen recognition and flick up till it says it is
off. This should solve this issue.

Hi Tim,

So when I go into Settings, if VO is on, focus is locked on the Status bar.
Neither my husband nor I can scroll down. The minute I three-finger swipe, it
opens the control center. I finally got into the VO screen by turning
Voiceover off, having my husband scroll down, turn VO back on. But he said it
shows white instead of green, and when He taps Recognition, nothing happens.
Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Donna

Hi,

Maybe check if Screen Recognition has been enabled for the Settings app. Your
husband may need to do this due to the current inaccessibility of the Settings.
It would be found in Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, VoiceOver
Recognition. Usually this can be accomplished using the rotor, but if the
screen recognition won’t let you work within the Settings app, you kind of end
up in a useless loop.

Later…

Hi all,

So this morning I had my husband look at my phone screen. He said that all my
icons and their labels are showing on the screen. So it seems that the problem
isn’t that they aren’t there, but rather that Voiceover isn’t reading them. I
re-booted my phone before going to sleep last night, and still, the only thing
VO will read once I open settings is the Status bar. I’d greatly appreciate
any help or suggestions anyone can offer.
Cheers,
Donna
