Hello,
This is just a translation of the old "busy" message. No more "busy busy" but
now we get Application is not responding. I expect that ARM based macs are not
seeing this at all. I see it occasionally on my early 2015 MacBookAir. I
believe it is better with MacOS 12.1 but I never had to wait a full minute for
a response. I expect that if you are not careful with windows management that
you would see it more. If you are getting this for a minute, I suggest you look
at the battery menu extra and see if any applications are listed as using
excessive power. Mail does take a bit to compare everything in the Inbox, run
rules on just downloaded never looked at messages and verifying that all your
messages have the same state. The one good thing about modern MacOS, is that
for the person who kept quitting and restarting mail, it is very possible that
in the background MacOS id did not exit the process, but just removed and
re-added the front end parts. I don't entirely understand how this works but I
have read about folks who quite an application and then still see it running in
the activity monitor and/or the ps output.
On a slightly related note, it sounds like Vispero is working on an ARM based
version of JAWS, somebody with an M1 Mac was asking questions at the FS Open
line that I listened to last night.
